Fear of Water or Aquaphobia – Where Does It Come From?

fear of water therapy

Any fear is a person’s response to any stimulus that his or her mind do not want to experience. It is kind of a learned response and can be unlearned with the help of hypnosis. Hypnosis helps you see it from a different perspective improving the quality of your life. Meridian Peak Hypnosis works with clients worldwide.

Water is considered as a source of extreme fun and enjoyment by many, however, visiting places like water parks or seashore are no less than a nightmare for some people. Aquaphobia or Fear of Water is an extreme fear that causes anxiety even though people realize the water in a lake or river, the ocean or even the sink may pose no imminent threat.

Some people fear of water just because they have faced a near-to-drowning situation while taking a swimming class or while playing on the seaside or sometimes even in a case when someone close to them has died of drowning. It is all in the mind.

Symptoms of Fear of Water

The symptoms of fear of water may vary from case to case depending on an individual’s condition and also the major cause of developing that fear. However, the common ones include an elevated heart rate, freezing, sweating, shivering, hyperventilation, anxiety and panic attacks with the sight or thought of water. Extreme evasion of water bodies is also a common symptom of this fear.
