Anxiety is a Common Cause of Throat Lumps and Problems Swallowing
Anxiety and stress can have a profound effect on your body, and one such effect is inflammation, caused by the activation of your autonomic nervous system. When you suffer from anxiety, your body is constantly stimulating your sympathetic nervous system. This leads to an increased heart rate, increased breathing rate, and muscle tension, and in some people that muscle tension can cause the throat to feel inflammation. In many people, that feeling is described as a “lump in the throat.”
Medical terminology of throat inflammation and swallowing issues are:
• Globus Pharyngis
• Globus Sensation
• Globus Hystericus
When anxiety causes the lump in your throat it isn’t dangerous. But when you have anxiety, it can feel very frightening. In some cases you may even feel as though you’re choking, or that you’re at risk of choking, and the anxiety may make it hard to swallow.
When anxiety causes a lump in the throat, it may feel as though you need to swallow multiple times to get the food down, but it’s still just anxiety, and it can be treated by relieving yourself of that anxiety.
Hypnosis is a Powerful Tool to Reduce Throat Inflammation
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are increasingly popular ways to reduce anxiety and help your throat’s inflammation reduce. Traditional talking therapies like counseling and cognitive behavior therapy help you understand the cause, but the ultimate goal is to change your thought pattern and this only happens in your subconscious mind. Hypnosis directly accesses your subconscious mind and helps you make changes at a deep level that traditional talk therapy cannot access.
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy help create:
• Reduced anxiety
• A more relaxed, less inflamed float
• A more relaxed feeling than you’ve felt in a long time (or ever!)
• The ability to set aside situations and truly enjoy life
• A new perspective in your mind
• An ability to choose your reactions to situations
• A growing sense of calm and relaxation in your mind and body
• A self-respect, self-love and self-esteem that you’ve never felt for yourself before
