Stress Eating is a Habit and a Response
Consuming food because you’re stressed can be a way to cope with or divert yourself from stressful feelings and problems. Most people think stress eating is due to lack of self control, however it is rarely the case. If you’ve ever found comfort in food because you are stressed, you’ve experienced stress eating.
Symptoms of stress eating include:
• Being unaware you are eating because you are stressed (also called ‘unconscious eating’)
• Food has become your only pleasure
• You have an inability to tolerate difficult feelings
• Feeling depressed after eating because the stress has not gone away
Stress Eating Makes Things Worse
Excessive carbs and sugar cause large shifts in blood sugar, bloating and the bad feelings that come from feeling overweight. Using food as a way to cope with stress is damaging to your body, your self-esteem and your health. Most clients we work with who engage in stress eating have an enormous amount of sugar involved in stress eating and these shifts in blood sugar create the highs and lows that lead to more stress eating.
Hypnosis Can Change Stress Eating
Hypnosis works directly with your subconscious mind in ways that allow you to feel better about yourself and to eat more healthy. Your subconscious mind is where you are storing the ‘program’ your body runs each time it is stressed and makes the decision to eat. This overrides conscious thinking where you know you should not eat when you are not hungry or when you are stressed.
Hypnosis practitioners talk directly to your subconscious mind and guide it to let go of the stress eating habits that no longer serve you, replacing those thoughts with healthy choices. In the first session we work with you to reduce stress and to understand new coping mechanisms for life’s challenges.
Hypnosis is proven more effective than traditional counseling
In a study in American Health Magazine, hypnosis and hypnotherapy have a 93% success rate compared with lower results from other methods of therapy which require far more sessions. Click here to learn more about hypnosis and its high success rate.
